Salesian Community House

Salesian Community House

Location Battersea
Client Salesians of Don Bosco

This new build community house for the Salesians of Don Bosco sits at the junction of Orbel Street and Surrey Lane in Battersea. MSMR's design comprises two, three-storey wings of accommodation, hinged about a glazed main entrance and circulation space.

Situated on a triangular-shaped site, the building’s cranked form, recessed balconies, decorative dog-toothed brickwork and perforated metal balustrades provide a contemporary, contextualised street frontage. The materials and colour palette were created to echo the calm and welcoming ethos of the client. A small copper-clad chapel sits at the heart of the scheme, whilst the adjoining space comprises personal accommodation for the members of the religious community, the community house and accommodation for visiting residents.

The community house forms part of the overall redevelopment of buildings for the St John Bosco College in Battersea.
